My brother and I first met Chuck years ago when he hired us to plant the lawn around the house and pond in Killingworth. Even though I barely had a drivers license, he spoke to us like we were both grown adults and always made us laugh. He spent the time to show us his home which was very unique in so many ways. We happen to be in the septic business as well and I last saw Chuck last year when he hired us to come and pump out the septic tank. Nothing had changed because he was still hysterical. Not only did he always pay in full, but he used to tip us as well and that goes to say a lot about a person. Put it this way, it has been years since we did the lawn job and I have worked with thousands of other customers since then and Chuck still stands out. To Bonnie and family, we are deeply saddended but I wish you all the best in the future.
Sincerely-
John Ahearn

I would like to share a memory of Chuck with his family and friends. Chuck and myself became friends at Simpson Grammar School, which was a baseball throw away from the Balassa house on Constitution St.
We started playing baseball next to Chuck's house on the hill and kept playing later on at Simpson Field and my backyard on Simpson Ave. Later we would play on the Brookside Package's and Rileys softball teams. We would alsoplay golf together from time to time.
Walking up Constitution St. the other day I wondered where Chuck was; now I know. My regret is that I didn't get to see him. He was always a happy, cheerful guy who loved people. I always remember the good times we had.
May God Bless You!!
Chuck Burghardt

Bonnie,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Stevens School just won't be the same without Chuck, Chuckles, "The Prince", the ambassador, and the keeper of peace. As I walk down the halls I keep expecting to hear his voice or see him in the distance. It just doesn't feel right without him here. He would always come in the office and make me smile no matter what kind of day I was having...he wouldn't leave until he got a smile out of me. I will truly miss him and all of his expert advice. My heart goes out to you and your children.

I will miss Chuck a great deal. Working next to him at Dag Middle School, we would talk very often. It is amazing how a person can touch so many people in positive ways, Chuck was one of those people. A good friend and union brother.
