Obituary of John R. Hourigan

MERIDEN - John R. Hourigan Sr., 89, departed this life on March 22, 2013 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the loving husband of the late Anne (Daly) Hourigan. He was born in Meriden on November 24, 1923, a son of the late William and Lea (Paul) Hourigan. John was the former owner of the Allen Hill Dairy in Meriden and had also worked for the State of Connecticut's Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Wallingford Elks and had formerly been a part of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Meriden. He will be remembered as an avid gardener. He is survived by his sons Robert Hourigan and his wife Ellen of Wallingford and John R. (Jack) Hourigan, Jr. and his wife Marian of Cheshire; his grandchildren: Robin Hettrick of Wallingford, Tamara Laplante of Massachusetts, Jay Hourigan of Wallingford, and Stacia Doyle of Cheshire; five great grandchildren; and his sister, Mildred Bell. He is also survived by his former spouse Frances Gilmore and his dear companion Joan Heinig. He is predeceased by his brothers: Clifford, Stanley, Clarence, Kenneth and Paul Hourigan and one great grandchild, Brielle Laplante. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, March 24th at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday at the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden.
