Obituary of Robert T Rood
Robert Tobey Rood, 95 years old, died peacefully on December 22, 2012 in Hamden, CT. He was born Nov. 6, 1917 in Torringford CT to Myles Humphrey and Emma Hopkins Rood. He was an alumnus of Avon Old Farms and Rensselar Polytechnic Institute. He worked most of his life as a civil engineer for Seelye Stevenson Value Knecht, Inc. of New York City and Hi Ho D'Addario Industries of Bridgeport CT. He lived in North Haven, CT; Rochester, NY; Danbury, CT; and Hamden, CT.
Playing tennis was a lifelong passion and he played well into his 80's. Where ever he went he managed to find the closest tennis club - the Branford Beach Club, High Lane CC, or the Rochester Tennis Club. All became his home away from home. He served in the Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 in the South Pacific and Germany. He was a regular contributor to the Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, and the World Wildlife Fund. He preferred the outdoors and was most often found there - If not on the tennis court, he enjoyed hiking, skiing, canoeing, and spent most of his working years as a resident civil engineer - the go-to engineer at the job site. He managed a number of complicated projects, including a restoration of the Dome of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C.
He leaves his daughters, Susan Rood Tiso and Amy Caroline Rood, his son-in-law Philip Tiso, granddaughter Nina Andrea Tiso, and niece Judy Rood Bosch. He was recently predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth Rood and Elizabeth (Betty) Rood.
