Obituary of Joseph J. Bevan
WALLINGFORD - Joseph J. Bevan, 82, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Doris (Antonucci) Lees Bevan, departed this life on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 peacefully at home with his wife by his side.
Joseph was born on June 20, 1930 in Meriden, CT son of the late Joseph Bevan, Sr. and Adelaide (Burt) Bevan. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict and later an Air Force veteran serving as a Special Investigator in the office of special investigations. Joseph was a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He served in the Wallingford Police Department for 38 years, 20 of which he was the Police Chief, until his retirement in 1990. He was a 57 year Mason of Compass Lodge #9 and also a member of the Scottish Rite. In his spare time Joseph enjoyed both hunting and fishing along with competitive shooting. He also loved his pet dogs. His greatest legacy is that of a loving Husband, Step-Father, and grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 34 years, Doris Bevan of Wallingford, along with a step-son, Jordie Lees of ME, and a step-daughter, Mary Ellen Waite and her husband Craig of UT. He also leaves his grandchildren: Naval Lt. Amy C. Lees of CA and Tess Beasley of WA, along with his special nephew Matt Simjian of Wallingford, daughter in law, Patricia McDonald of ME and numerous other nieces and nephews. Joseph also leaves very special friends and neighbors; the Valintas Family, William Sr., Eileen, William Jr., and Kristina and Bob and Sue Tarantino of Wallingford, along with his childhood friend Thomas Melenchenko. He is preceded in death by his brother, William Carver.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, December 9th from 12:00 (Noon) until 3:00 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 10th at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Dean Warburton of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford officiating. Interment will follow at In Memoriam Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
