Obituary of Mildred Hassell
Mildred Hassell (age 94 )of 161 W. 16th Street, New York City and formerly of Wallingford, CT passed peacefully on 7/27/12.
Mildred was born on March 21, 1918 to the late Herschel Hessel and Dora(Zimmerman) Hessel in the North Farms section of Wallingford. Mildred was a 1934 graduate of Lyman Hall HS and moved to New York City shortly thereafter. She worked for many years in NYC and Houston as an executive assistant in the financial services arena. She loved New York City, was a patron of the arts, and lived a full life as a true "New Yorker", experiencing all the wonderful restaurants and activities that the "Greatest City in the World" had to offer. Her great love and knowledge of sports was truly unique. She was very proud of her association over the years with athletics at Rice University in Houston and continued a scholarship in her brother Lou's name there. In most recent years she was very involved with, and enjoyed being with members of, The Jewish Guild for the Blind.
Mildred was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers. Bess Morton of Williamsport, PA; Rose Goldfarb of Wallingford, CT; Julius Hassell of Wallingford, CT; Lou Hassell of Houston, TX; and Joseph Hessel of Meriden, CT. She was the beloved aunt of and is survived by nine nieces and nephews. Bruce Morton and wife Barbel of Bozeman, Montana; Richard Goldfarb and wife Peggy of Marblehead, MA; Larry Goldfarb of Knoxville, TN; David Goldfarb and wife Allison of St Augustine, FLA; Doranne Borges and husband Willie of Portsmouth, RI; Thomas Hessel of Meriden, CT; Elizabeth Chester of Middletown, CT; Dr. Joseph Hessel and wife Dorothy of Paradise Valley, AZ; James Hessel and wife Patty of Fairfield, CT. and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Wallingford at Beth Israel Cemetery at the convenience of the family with no calling hours. In Mildred's memory, donations can be made to:
