Obituary of Everett Burton Harvey
CHESHIRE - Everett B. Harvey Jr., 88, of Cheshire, beloved husband of Georgia (Duke) Harvey departed this life on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford.
Everett, who was most commonly addressed as "Rhett", was born on April 22, 1923 in Quincy, MA, son of the late Everett B. Harvey Sr., and Louella (Woodman) Harvey. After graduation from Hill House High, with WWII raging, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy attending Wesleyan and Columbia Universities as part of officer training. As a Lieutenant, he became a demolitions expert and deep sea diver. He was first deployed to Pearl Harbor to oversee clearing unexploded munitions from the harbor floor, then throughout the South Pacific, finally attached to the Chi Chi Jima 3rd Marines.
After his return to the States, he attended the University of Connecticut. A career in sales began soon after, eventually leading to his partnership in New England Welding and Supply, where he served as President. A loving and devoted husband, he was also an enthusiastic father of two, involving himself in their Scouting, promoting their musical endeavors, and attending their numerous sporting events.
He dabbled with inventing, most of those projects benefiting family and friends. In his spare time he occasionally fished, camped, and enjoyed playing tennis. Most of all, Rhett loved spending time on Cape Cod. He also enjoyed flying.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Georgia of Cheshire and their two children: Dana Harvey of Virginia City, Montana, and Dale Hutchison and her husband Kyle of Wallingford. He also leaves a grandson: Corey Hutchison of Wallingford, and a brother-in-law, Richard Duke and his wife Linda of Hot Springs Village, AR. He is preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Richard Harvey.
A Memorial Service celebrating Everett's life will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00 am in the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Masonicare Ramage 2, and Midstate Hopsital for the wonderful care of Everett and the support given to his family over the past months.
