WALLINGFORD - Mary Ellen Elder, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard E. Scott. She was born on April 2, 1949 in Pennsylvania to the late William and Helen (Costello) Elder. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Verizon Wireless Executive Relations for 17 years. She was an avid reader and writer. One of her greatest accomplishments was going back to college and graduating top honors from Albertus Magnus College at the age of 50. She encouraged many a college student to pursue their degrees with success. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church of Wallingford. She is survived by two daughters: Andrea Gallo and husband David, and granddaughter Zoe; Jackie Van Dyke and her husband Stephen. She is also survived by her brother William Elder and his wife Joan; niece Beth O'Keefe and family, and nephew Bill Elder and family. Mary Ellen's family wishes to thank her care team and CT Hospice for the care and comfort provided to mom during her illness, including Megan, Erin, Mary, Jess, Monique, Deb, and Katreena. Special thanks to the staff of the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, and Dr. Braylovsky and staff. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. in Wallingford. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Those attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity School, 11 N.
