Obituary of Marian Georgia Duke Harvey

WALLINGFORD - Marian Georgia Duke Harvey, 93, formerly of Cheshire, beloved wife of the late Everett B. Harvey Jr., departed this life on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Masonicare in Wallingford. Marian, who was most commonly addressed as Georgia, was born December 03, 1922 in New York City, daughter of Guy Otis Duke and Marie Sweltzer Duke. Her childhood and adolescent years were spent in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Following graduation from high school in Cardwell, NJ, she attended college at the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II she worked for Grumman Aircraft. Georgia accompanied her family when they moved to Waban, MA, entering into the banking industry, and where she was to meet Everett, the love of her life. A loving, devoted, and supportive wife and mother, she ran a tight ship at home, was instrumental in coordinating a balance for Everett's demanding schedule, all the while enthusiastically supporting the school, social and sporting activities of her two children. Georgia had an artistic flair for decorating and maintaining her home, while her passion for, and success with gardening was evident throughout her home, surrounding property and with the Garden Clubs. She demonstrated her civic mindedness by volunteering for numerous community projects and programs throughout her life. Georgia will be sadly missed by her two children, Dana Harvey of Sheridan, Montana, and Dale Hutchison and husband, Kyle of Wallingford. She also leaves a grandson, Corey Hutchison of East Haven, along with a plethora of nieces, nephews, friends and shirt tail relatives. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Duke Rose and brother, Richard Duke. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with the arrangements. Abiding with Georgia's wishes, no public service will be held. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Masonicare 3 Central for the wonderful care of Georgia during her residency. At Georgia's request, memorial contributions may be directed to The Wounded Warrior Project at; www.woundedwarriorproject.org or 877-832-6997.
