Helen B. Schirra, 87, of Wallingford, passed away in Wallingford on Friday, October 14, 2011. She was the wife of the late John J. Schirra, Jr. Mrs. Schirra was born on July 21, 1924, in Scranton, PA, daughter of the late Bronislaus and Theresa Wojewodski. She graduated from Central High School in Scranton and was later married in Scranton in 1949. She resided in Wallingford since 1959 and was a long time parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection. A beloved mother and grandmother, her surviving family includes her children, Robert M. Schirra, of Wallingford, John J. Schirra, III, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Patricia M. Schirra, of Wallingford; her grandchildren, Ian S. Rogers, of Palo Alto, CA, Dianna Peel, Brianna Schirra, and Tyler Schirra of Wallingford, Julianna P. Schirra, of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Melissa Schirra and Heather Schirra, of West Palm Beach, FL; her great grandson, Mikal Rivera, of Sierra Vista, AZ, and her brother, Raymond Wojewodski, of Scranton, PA. She is predeceased by her brothers, Stanley Wojewodski and Edward Wojewodski, and her sisters, Alice Klas, Ann Sveltowitz, and Loretta Urban, previously of Scranton, PA. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford from 9:00 - 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford. Burial will follow on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
