Deepest condolences to the entire Solomon family. I worked with Dave for 13 years at the Register. Others have described better than I can what a talented sportswriter and columnist he was. Although I worked in the news department, Dave and I were destined to have almost daily contact once he realized I had attended Syracuse University, one of UConn's sporting rivals. It set the stage for years of verbal jousting that rings in my ears to this day. As others have said, Dave always gave as good as he got, and obviously delighted in the debate.
Condolences also from my wife, the former Martine Costello, who enjoyed both Dave's work and his personality while on the news staff in New Haven.

Dear Mrs. Solomon, Lisa and Abby,
We are very sorry your loss. I was very saddened by the news of Mr. Solomon's passing. The tributes to him in the paper have been very touching, he was a remarkable man. I fondly remember in June, how kind and sweet he was to Marisa at the wedding, doing whatever he could to make her smile and laugh. And of course, he succeeded. I know he was a wonderful father.
