Obituary of Lucy Bernat
Lucy R. Bernat, wife of the late Steven Bernat and daughter of the late Andrew and Maria Sartori Rossi, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her residence at the Village at Kensington Place in Meriden, Connecticut.
Lucy was educated in the Wallingford Public Schools and is a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. She met and married Steven Bernat, also of Wallingford.
Shortly after their marriage and before the outbreak of World War II, Lucy and her husband moved to Jacksonville, Florida. Both Lucy and her husband were employed at the Jacksonville Air Station where Steve served as a Civil Service mechanical engineer repairing war damaged planes. After the war, they moved to Pompano Beach, Florida and began a business of boat repair and deep sea fishing, charting groups into surrounding islands.
Lucy also became proficient in real estate title and abstract work and eventually became Vice President of the Fidelity Title and Abstract Company of Pompano Beach. She was closely involved with the Florida Association of Legal Secretaries (FALS) and was an officer for many years.
For sixteen years of their retirement years, Lucy and Steve resided in Boca Raton, Florida. Upon Steven�s death, Lucy moved North to be closer to her family. In addition to her husband and parents, Lucy was predeceased by her brothers Peter J. Rossi and George A. Rossi, and her sister Edith R. Bellows. She leaves her sisters, Mildred L. Rossi and Julia R. D�Agostino of Wallingford, her nephew Peter A. Rossi of Yalesville and her nieces Andrea D. Gelzer of Philadelphia PA., Ruth M. D�Agostino of Meriden and Mary B. Pohl of South Windsor, Connecticut and several great nephews and nieces.
A Mass celebrating Lucy�s life will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, Ct at 11 am on Saturday, the 29th of January. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Church of the Resurrection or charity of choice.
Lucy�s family extends their heartfelt thanks to friends and staff of the Village at Kensington Place, Assisted Living Services, Inc. and especially her caregiver companion Evelyn Nyarakoa.
