NEWINGTON - Margaret "Peggy" Counihan, 64, of Newington, beloved wife of Robert Counihan, departed this life on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at New Britain Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born on October 1, 1946 in Meriden, CT, daughter of the late Ellie and Alice (Olson) Mottram. She graduated class of 1964 from Lyman Hall High School and later obtained a bachelors degree in English from UCONN. After they met in the marching band at UCONN, she married Bob on April 26, 1969 in Branford and they shared over 41 years of marriage together. She retired this past year after working over 35 years at the Lucy Robbins Welles Library in Newington. In her spare time Peggy enjoyed bird watching, gardening, reading, and spending time with family at the beach. She was an avid UCONN sports fan. Her greatest legacy was being a loving wife and mother. She will be sadly missed by her husband Bob of Newington, and her beloved daughter Erin Counihan and her husband Aaron Krochmal of Chestertown, MD. She also leaves a sister Susan Jackson and her husband Michael of Sandy, UT, her two brothers-in-law, Jack Counihan and his wife Ellen of Garrison, NY, and Lee McElrath and his wife Carole of Hamden. She also leaves an aunt and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, January 9th from 1 - 4 PM at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with interment following at In Memoriam Cemetery.
