Obituary of Guy Beach

WALLINGFORD - GUY PIERPONT BEACH Guy P. Beach, 80, of 61 Cheshire road died on November 7, 2010. Born June 4, 1930, in Wallingford. Descended from John Beach who came on the Mayflower in 1630. His mother, Agnes L. Beach, grew up in Oakville and earned her R.N. from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore in 1919 and later became a public health nurse in Waterbury. His father, Zerah Nathan Beach, was blind, but had a successful poultry business from 1905 until his death in 1959. He negotiated his farm without the aid of a guide dog or cane and did nearly all that a sighted person could, except drive a car. Guy graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1948 and the University of Connecticut in 1952. He was Lt. in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was a Korean War veteran. Later, he was a Captain in the Civil Affairs branch of the Army Reserve. In 1956, he earned his Master's degree from Springfield College. He was a 40-year Human Resources professional with various companies in the U.S. and Jamaica. He retired as a manager in Human Resources from Pitney Bowes after 16 years. Guy was a prolific writer and had some 50 pieces of political satire and letters to the editor published, including three in the New York Times. He was a director of the Wallingford Land Trust for more than 25 years.He placed a conservation restriction on 6.3 acres of his property which will now transition to the Land Trust. He was also a member of the Republican Town Committee and a director of the Center Street Cemetery Association. He was a member of the American Political Item Collectors and had a collection of 900 plus pieces of political memorabilia. Memorial service: Center Street Cemetery at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 13, 2010. The B. C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with arrangements.
