Obituary of Michael J. Hutnik
MERIDEN - Michael J. Hutnik, 93, departed this life on February 8, 2016 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the loving husband of Helen (Szyszlo) Hutnik.
He was born in Southington on November 14, 1922. He graduated from Louis High School in 1940 and earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He participated in the V-7 training program which transferred to the V012 college training program.
He was a veteran of WWII and left his service with the rank of lieutenant. In 1948 he married Barbara Jane Comerford, and in the 1950s they had two children: Brenda Lee and Michael John. After the death of Barbara, he married Helen Catherine Szyszlo in 1975.
He had been a member of the Elks and was a third degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. For twelve years he served as the president of the Bradley Memorial Hospital where he was a trustee. He also served as a trustee of St. Nicholas Church in Meriden since the 1960s. He served as the Director of Engineering at International Silver until its closure in 1982. He also worked in the field of real estate and appraisals and as a property manager.
