Obituary of Marjorie Orrill
Marjorie Moose Leona (Nankervis) Orrill, 83, of Wallingford entered life eternal on Monday, August 16, 2010 surrounded by her family, after a year-long bout with pancreatic cancer. Marge was one of two children born to the late William and Leona (Sanford) Nankervis. She was born and raised in Meriden, and earned her R.N. from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn NY where she was valedictorian. Marge was the beloved wife of the late Chester
A. Orrill, Jr. She became the Director of nursing at Veterans Memorial Hospital, and then the Supervisor of the operating room until her retirement.
Marge loved a variety of handcrafts including knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, and quilting, for which she won prizes at the Durham Fair. Marge was a lifelong active member of the First United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday School and volunteered. She loved to travel, and visited family in South Carolina frequently. Once retired, she travelled cross country with
a friend in an RV and visited many national parks and other places. She frequently traveled to Florida during the Winter, but was sure to return for Easter. She loved spending summers on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, where she and Chet purchased a small cottage on the lake in the 1980s. She chose hers specifically for the view of the lake nothing between her and
the water but grass and sand. She could spend hours sitting on the deck, a book or handiwork in hand, watching the world go by. She enjoyed many hours playing cribbage with friends. Her motto was Enjoy things when you can. Marge lived her later years at Masonic Apartments in Wallingford, where she could be found spending time with close friends and helping others through volunteering.
Marge was predeceased by her sister Francis Nettles of Walterboro, South Carolina. She is survived by her children Susan Orrill, Judith Shea, Neil Orrill, Peggy Chernoff and their spouses; grandchildren Jennifer and Bryan Shea, Pamela Henderson, Michael, Amanda, Alicia Pezzullo, and Olivia Orrill; great grandson William Henderson; nieces Fran Mack and Margie Marks; and
nephew John Nettles.
