Obituary of Mollie Robbins

Mollie Robbins of Wallingford, CT died unexpectedly after a brief illness on June 01, 2010. Her granddaughter Dana once said, my grandmother likes to laugh. Mollies greatest pleasure was sitting with family listening and laughing at their stories. Mollie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, born in East Harlem, New York in 1915. She spoke Yiddish at home with her parents, whod come from Poland and Ukraine. Mollie grew up watching Tony the iceman haul massive blocks of it up 3 flights of stairs and died in a time of cyberspace and iPhones. Her high school year book at Julia Richmond High School noted her as one of its top graduating students, talented in art, and prone to being quiet. If Silence Were Golden, Shed Be A Millionaire read her caption. Her fathers illness kept her from college, and a career in clothing design was put aside for work and eventually marriage and raising a family. Before and between having her two children, she filled her hours making enough homemade clothing, sweaters and rugs to stock a store. The house walls were adorned with her original landscapes and portrait paintings. She kept sewing and making sweaters until her eyes finally started to fail in her late 80s. Ever conscious of fashion, her closets were also filled with a lifetime of hats and a cornucopia of shoes. Most all of them bought on sale. She outlived her husband Herman by 14 years, remained active with friends, and played a good game of golf, throughout her 80s. Mollie is survived by her loving family: Edward Robbins & Lesley Dill of NYC; Russell & Ellen Robbins of New Hartford; Jason & Cyndi Robbins of Virginia; Dana Robbins of Boston and her nieces and cousins. She always felt her sisters daughter Jacqui Cohen, was like her own. Months before she died she said she would keep going until she saw her newly born great grandchild Wyatt Robbins. She did live to see Wyatt, in March, and held him with laughter and joy. Her burial service will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery, Dudley Ave., Wallingford on June 04, 2010 at 2:00 pm.
