Obituary of Burton Marczewski

Burton J. Marczewski, 87, formerly of Wallingford, passed away on May 27 in Framingham, MA. He was the beloved husband of Olga W. Marczewski for 61 years who also currently resides in Framingham. Burton was born in Wallingford on July 1, 1922, son of the late Roman and Violet Dembiczak Marczewski. He lived in Wallingford and Seymour, CT during his childhood, and later served in the US Army as a Private First Class in Company I, 119th Infantry, from 1942 to 1945. He saw action in Belgium and France, where he was wounded on July 12, 1944 and received the Purple Heart. After his discharge from service he worked at the H.L. Judd Company on S. Cherry Street in Wallingford where he met his soon-to-be-wife Olga Wigh in 1947; they were married in 1949. After also working at Pratt & Whitney in North Haven, CT, he worked for 33 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Wallingford until he retired as a Gas Tender in 1986. Shortly afterward he and Olga moved to Florida, where they spent many of their retirement years, returning to the northeast in 2004. Burton recently settled into the St. Patricks Manor nursing home in Framingham very close to where Olga lives and near his son and his family. Burton was an avid salt water fisherman, outdoorsman, a devoted husband and father, and a loyal Red Sox fan. He loved tending his vegetable garden and working around the house. He was a member of the E&R United Church of Christ and served on the church council, building committee, mens club, and choir. He also was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He will be remembered for his hard work, steady demeanor, and solid devotion to family a true member of the Greatest Generation. In addition to his beloved wife, he will be sadly missed by his son John and wife Maura of Holliston, MA, and his grandchildren Erin and Danny who brought him great joy; and his sister Elizabeth Tarnowski of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Lynn, in 1962; sisters Helen DOrsi and Adeline Warro, and his brothers Robert and Edward. He also leaves nephews and nieces, and many other relatives who knew him as Uncle Bunky. Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. A private burial at the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Burtons name to St. Patricks Manor (run by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm), 863 Central Street, Framingham, MA 01701-4892, or the Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ, 107 South Cherry Street, Wallingford, CT 06492.
