Obituary of James Malchiodi
WALLINGFORD - James "Jim" Malchiodi, 90, of Wallingford, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in New York City, on July 2, 1919, he was the son of Luigi Malchiodi and Maria LanFranchi. He spent his early childhood in his family's ancestral town of Grondone, Italy, and at the age of 10, came back to the U.S. to live with his aunt Carolina Malchiodi and cousins in Wallingford.
Jim was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. He later worked as a millright at Alleghany Ludlum Steel until his retirement in 1981. He was an avid golf fan, having caddied at the Wallingford Country Club as a youth and later playing at the local courses with his golf buddies. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church. Jim will be remembered for his outgoing personality, strength of character, quick wit, positive attitude, and kindness to others.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Grace and his brother Nicola, and fraternal twin brother Louis in 2008. Survived by daughter Cathy Malchiodi and son-in-law David Barker, Louisville, KY; sister Vittorina Malchiodi Begnis and nephew Luigi Begnis in Abbiategrasso, Italy; niece Paola Begnis, Milan, Italy; nephew Luigi Malchiodi, Grondone, Italy; nephew Robert Malchiodi, Wallingford, and niece Mary Ann O'Looney, Meriden.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Wallingford.
