Obituary of Cynthia Melvin

WALLINGFORD - Cynthia Melvin, 68, of Terrace Gardens departed this life on May 12, 2010 at her home. She was born in Bridgeport, May 3, 1942, a daughter of the late James and Katherine Tartaro Burke. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Washington, DC and the University of Connecticut. She was employed as a customer service representative in the Town of Wallingford�s Electric Division over the past twenty years. She was a Chief Steward of Local #457, Clerical Unit of I.B.E.W., was a former member of the Wallingford Democratic Town Committee and was the former vice-chairman of the Wallingford Planning and Zoning Commission. Cynthia had been a parishioner of the Most Holy Trinity Church. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Ballard and her husband Keith of Wakefield, RI and Mary Katherine Melvin and her husband Christopher Weltzien of San Francisco, CA; a son, Edward G. Melvin II and his wife Deborah of Syracuse, NY; and a brother, James F. Burke and his wife Emily of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren, William Ballard, Katherine, Elizabeth and Christopher Weltzien, and Daniel and Margaret Melvin. She is also survived by her former husband Jerome F. Melvin of Syracuse, NY. Cynthia is remembered for her generosity of spirit and deep love for her family. She will be dearly missed. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Rd., Wallingford. Burial will be at Center Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St, Wallingford on Monday, May 17, 2010 from 5:00 -7:00 PM. It is suggested that contributions in her memory be directed to the Center Street Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 523, Wallingford, CT 06492.
