WALLINGFORD - Richard A. Ziel, 83, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Lorraine (Mikolinski) Ziel, departed this life on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his family. Richard was born March 26, 1927 in Nanticoke, PA son of the late Frank and Sophie (Glowacki) Ziel. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a police officer for a short time for the Hamden Police Department and later became a Connecticut State Trooper. He retired in 1982 as a Trooper in the Hartford area. In his retirement Richard enjoyed living in Port St. Lucie, Florida with Lorraine. He was an avid golfer winning many local tournaments and was proud to have two hole in ones during his golfing career! He will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years Lorraine of Wallingford and their three children: Ricky Ziel and his wife Marianne of East Haddam, Judy Guccione and her husband Gary of Cheshire, and Martin Ziel of Suffield. He leaves 7 beloved grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren in addition to 2 half brothers Sam and Paul Zielazienski. The B. C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with arrangements. Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Wallingford.
