Obituary of Dorothy Whitmore Cannata
Wallingford - Dorothy Whitmore Cannata, 87, of Wallingford, beloved wife of the late Louis J. Cannata for 49 years, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at her home.
Born on June 17, 1921, in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Sedon) Whitmore. She lived in New Haven until moving to Wallingford in 1945, where she raised her four children. She took great joy caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. With pride and compassion she served as an "adoptive" mother and grandmother to many more. She was part of the Dunkin' Donuts "coffee crew" in Yalesville each night.
She will be sadly missed by her four children: Darlene Cannata Bailey and her husband Robert of Yalesville, Lawrence Cannata and his wife Denise of Wallingford, Mary Cannata and her husband Joseph Janiga of East Haven, and Nanette Cannata Pardew and her husband Thomas of Wallingford. She leaves two sisters: Mildred Fairchild of New Haven and Ann Tuscano of West Haven, along with a brother, Harry Whitmore of Hamden. In addition she leaves 5 grandchildren: Michele Bailey Chaudhry, Michael R. Bailey, Matthew R. Bailey, Daniel J. Cannata, and Thomas J. Pardew and 5 great grandchildren: Isabella, Marlena, and Aidan Bailey, Nabil and Nadeem Chaudhry in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She will be especially missed by her dear friends Al Misiaszek and Zelma Campbell. She is predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 13th from 3 - 7 P.M. at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St, Wallingford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ss. Peter & Paul's Church in Wallingford on Saturday, February 14th at 11 A.M. Those attending the Mass are asked to meet directly at church. Interment will follow at In Memoriam Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Trinity School, 11 North Whittlesey Ave, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to the charity of one's choice.
