Obituary of William Hutchinson
William "Hutch" Hutchinson, 76, of Wallingford, beloved husband of 53 years to Carol "Petie" Hutchinson, departed this life on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Bradley Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Hutch was born on January 6, 1932 in Meriden, CT son of the late William and Frances (Mooney) Hutchinson. He recieved his degree from Yale University in Economics. While at Yale he served in the ROTC. He served in the U.S. Airforce for 20 years retiring as a Pilot with a rank of Major.
He retired after 15 years of service with the Meriden Board of Education as the Transportation Manager, he also worked for the Wallingford Board of Education as a Truant Officer. He later worked for Walls Transportation as the Transportation Manager, and owned and operated Walt's Package Store, in Wallingford.
Hutch is known for founding the Wallingford Junior Football League and the Wallingford Youth Soccer League. In his spare time Hutch was as avid golfer. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Carol "Petie" of Wallingford and their children: Susan Thiel and her husband Mark of MI, Tom Hutchinson of Wallingford, Sarah Rogers and her husband Bruce of Wallingford, William Hutchinson and his wife Meredith of Wallingford and Andrew Hutchinson of Meriden. He also leaves one sister, Anne MacQuarrie of MA, along with 14 grandchildren, Jessie, Kevin, Murphy, Alyson, Craig, Shelby, Cavan, Kylie, Bailey, William, Casey, Ashley, and Jacob. Hutch is preceded in death by one grandson, Derek.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, May 2nd from 5 - 7 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 6 PM in the funeral home chapel with full military honors. Interment will be in In Memoriam Cemetery and private. Memorial contributions may be directed the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.
