I am Charlie's sister and have known him longer than any of his family and friends.
Charlie was 8 yrs and 4 months older than I, and when we were growing up, he was known as Sonny Guild in our home and neighborhood. Our cousins still call him by that name.
Being a little girl, with an older brother, I always looked up to him. He would take me in the woods to pick blackberries, he showed me how to use a bow and arrow, a rifle, how to roller skate, how to ride a bike, how to garden and how to love and heal animals. He had a good soul.
I will never forget him healing a Chicken Hawk with a broken wing. He also healed and released a crow that he found in the woods that had been shot. We kept it in the basement until it was well enough to be released. I was always included in those releases and will never forget the emotional feeling. Charlie was always outdoors involved in something and SO interesting to a little girl.
Sister, June, was the oldest and a couple of years older than Charlie. She passed away in 2001. She was married when I was seven and, as time went by, Charlie and I also married. Kids came into all our lives and we were all busy. Over the years, as the children grew, we did not spend as much time visiting as we did when the kids were little. But, let me tell you all right now that those days growing up on Wayland Rd with my brother will be engraved in my mind as long as I live. Now I have shared them with you, and those memories will remain.
My brother, my hero.
