Obituary of Ruth Eleanor Gertzel

WALLINGFORD - Ruth Gertzel, 84, departed this life on June 27, 2018 at her home.

She was the beloved wife of the late, August William Gertzel. She was born in Ozone Park, NY on November 24, 1933 to the late Charles and Elsie Mae Voss.

She farmed for 24 years (1954-1978), was widowed in 1977, raised 2 children, obtained her Masters in Education from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY), taught for 27 years (1980-2007 / in various levels from Elementary through Community College), was a Boy Scout Leader for 2 years, a Girl Scout Leader for 8 years and she was the Secretary/Treasurer for Fleming Federated Church in Auburn, NY from 1971-1978.

She loved doing crosswords, puzzles, gardening (in her younger days) and watching Wheel of Fortune. Although she did not have a lot, she was a very generous person and throughout her life opened her home up to Foster children and Foreign Exchange students and various family members. Her outlook on life were: “Give glory to God and Let me help you!”

Ruth is survived by: daughter Vivian Jaquint, son Frederick Gertzel, brother Robert Voss, granddaughters Tiffany Ritz and Briana Levine, grandsons Rick and Phillip Gertzel; great-grandson Sawyer Ritz; great-granddaughter Hayden Ritz; son-in-laws Daniel Jaquint and Brian Ritz.

A funeral service for Ruth will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 6:00pm at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 3-6pm. Interment will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:00am at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
