Obituary of Corinne Milone Stacey
WALLINGFORD - Corinne Milone Stacey, 96, died peacefully Monday, March 13, 2017. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Rudolph E. Stacey on January 2, 2015. During their 70 years together they shared their love of family, Cape Cod, travel and golf. Among her hobbies were knitting, quilting and baking.
Corinne was born on February 15, 1921, in Middletown, daughter of the late Gaetano and Vincenza (Lastrina) Milone. A graduate of St. Raphael's School of Nursing in New Haven, she had been a registered nurse at St. Raphael's, Meriden and Memorial Hospitals, the Wallingford Visiting Nurse Association and, until her retirement, at the Wallingford Office of Drs. Harold Broady and Lucian Sawicki. Corinne also volunteered with many nursing associations and, upon her retirement, at the Wallingford Senior Center. She had been a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
Corinne always had time for family, a loving and patient mother to her daughter, Claudia Stacey Anderson of Wallingford and her son, Paul E. Stacey and his wife Carol of East Hampton. Granddaughters Michelle Stacey (Stuart Boyd), who resides in Germany, and Christina Stacey (Greg Bjork) of Portland, Maine, were frequent visitors. With her husband, Rudy, she spent many hours creating summer adventures for Michelle and Chris, including visits to parks, museums and other attractions throughout Connecticut. Her great grandchild Jack Boyd always brought her a smile during holiday visits.
Corinne grew up in Middletown with two brothers and seven sisters, with whom she remained close. Regular family gatherings that involved her many nieces and nephews and their families were held through the years, often at her parents' summer cottage in Old Saybrook. She is survived by two sisters, Geraldine Whittles of Portland and Evelyn Alfano formerly of Old Saybrook. She also remained close to her classmates at St. Raphael's and her many nursing colleagues she met throughout her life.
The family is especially grateful to Nayra Kuwornu who provided loving and attentive home care in recent years and remained with Corinne until her death.
Her cat Tiger was her constant companion, bringing her much joy and comfort in her final years. It was Corinne's wish that memorial contributions be directed to Animal Friends of Connecticut, PO Box 370306, West Hartford, CT 06137-0306 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
A private graveside service will be held at St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.BaileyCares.com.
