Obituary of Douglas E. Williams
Douglas E. Williams of Farmington, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 12, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Joanne M. (Calvo) Williams with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born on February 27, 1945, he was one of two children of the late Lee and Lillian (Churchill)Williams. He was predeceased by his sister Jane W. Goodall.
Doug graduated from Plainville High, Class of '63. His career began as an auto technician at Robert E. Parsons in Farmington. He retired from the City of Bristol as Superintendent of Garage and Maintenance. He loved tinkering with cars and always talked about owning a '62 Corvette. He also served in the United States Army.
Doug loved being outdoors. He enjoyed pheasant hunting with his son, Keith, and their four legged buddies, Gunner and Gauge, and deer hunting with his longtime friend, Jimmy, and the boys in Sheffield. His snowmobiling trips to Maine with Keith, Troy and his good friend, Glenn, gave him great joy and funny stories to share. Doug was an avid UCONN women's basketball and Patriots fan. He enjoyed caring and working with his horses Dodger and Dusty.
In addition to his wife Joanne, he leaves behind his two sons and their wives: Keith and Kendra Williams and Troy and Amy Williams as well as his beautiful grandchildren: Makayla, Ethan, Nathaniel and Mia, several nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, George Goodall and many of his friends who always stopped by to see him.
We are forever grateful for our caring neighbors who helped us many times out of the goodness of their hearts, asking nothing in return. Our family wants to especially thank Dr. St. Pierre for his compassion, expert opinion and treatment for Doug. He was always there when we needed him. We are also very appreciative of the tireless efforts of Dr. Rosenblatt, Dr. Watson, Dr. Divinigracia, and Dr. Shah. We would like to thank the Hospital of Central CT, Dr. Kalra, Dr. Tillman, and Dr. Baker, as well as the ER and Critical Care doctors and nurses who saw him quite often and always treated him with dignity, kindness and the best of care. The Hartford Health Care at Home nurses medical expertise, compassion and assurance allowed Doug to come home and made our time with him very peaceful. We thank you for all you do.
In honor of Doug's wishes his family will celebrate his life privately. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. Those who wish to honor Doug with a memorial contribution may do so to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 (www.diabetes.org/donate) or to the charity of one's own choice.
