I never had a best friend until, at fifteen, I met Luis Nunez's son, Louie, in Spanish class at Andrew Warde High School. That was forty-two years ago. Louie's father and mother nurtured in their children a balance of good judgment and warm hearts--a balance, that, I suppose, I was drawn to from the start. Mr. Nunez was always the most polite and delightful man when I was over at his house (and I was over at his house a lot!) In ways, he was like a second father, not only in welcoming me into his home and family, but in providing me good counsel when I needed it. Meanwhile, Mrs. Nunez kept an eye on her son and me, so that we wouldn't do too many stupid things.
My wife Andrea and I send our warmest to the Nunez family, and may Mr. Nunez rest in peace.
