Obituary of Luis Núñez
WALLINGFORD - Luis Núñez, 90, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Nuria (Amigo) Núñez, departed this life on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Mid-State Medical Center.
Luis was born on October 13, 1924 in Juaja, Peru son of the late Alejandro Núñez and Juana Suarez Mercado. He immigrated to the USA as a young man with the help of his sponsor Paul Linz. While traveling in Barcelona, Spain he met the love of his life and married Nuria on September 12, 1953.
Throughout his 40 year career he worked as a professional waiter. Luis valued hard work all his life and believed that America was the land of opportunity. He prioritized the pursuit of education and he encouraged this with all his children.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with family. Most recently his favorite past times were spending time in the Wallingford Public Library and the Wallingford Senior Center. He was most proud and happy being a devoted father and husband and caring for his family.
In addition to his wife Nuria he is survived by their five children: Rose Evans and her husband William of Wallingford, Virginia Olson and her husband Robert of Portland, Louis Núñez and his wife Linda of North Haven, Paul Núñez of Orange, and Katie Núñez and her husband Brewster Heatley of Newtown. Luis also leaves a step-brother, Victor Mercado and his wife Lydia of Bridgeport, and seven beloved grandchildren: Tracy, Ben, Ashlee, Tessa, Nicole, Michaela, and Brewster Jr. and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his friend and mentor Paul Linz and wife Kathleen.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, December 10th from 9 - 11 AM at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Interment will follow at the Upper Merryall Cemetery in New Milford.
