Muriel was born in New Haven on April 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Earl and Ellen Fowler. She was predeceased by her husband Richard E. Hansen, Jr. She is survived by her three sons and their families. Richard and Susan Hansen of Southington, Robert and Catherine Hansen of Wallingford, and William Hansen of Wallingford. She grew up in New Haven in a family of eight children. Muriel worked for the American Optical Co. where she met her future husband Richard Hansen of West Haven. Richard and Muriel were married in 1950 and later settled in Wallingford.
Muriel is best known for her kindness and hospitality. No guest ever left her house hungry, and no child ever left without a cookie or candy and the kind words "I love you" to send them on their way. Muriel was a devout Roman Catholic and one of the first (founding) members of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford. She was a true example of what it means to be a woman of God.
The family would like to express special thanks to all the staff of Wooster 2 at the Masonic Healthcare Center for outstanding patient care and for their continuing dedication and compassion.
