Obituary of Leonard T. Homestead
WALLINGFORD -Leonard T. Homestead, 100, entered into rest on Saturday, February 2, 2013 peacefully at his home in Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Carol Violet Butterworth Homestead from North Haven, Connecticut.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, August 7, 1912 and was the only child of the late Axel (Aksel) and Martha (Marta) Hansen Homestead, of Stavanger, Norway and Halden, Norway, respectively.
Mr. Homestead worked at the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Company for 47 years and was the Comptroller there until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Wallingford Country Club and the Wallingford Elks Lodge.
He is survived by a son, Peter Homestead and his wife Linda of Wallingford, a daughter, Karen Bashir and her husband Jawaid, both of Rockville, MD, and four grandchildren, Jamil Bashir of Miami, Florida, Shireen Bashir of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kristen Rosenberry and her husband, Paul, of Wallingford, and Richard Homestead and his wife Christine, also of Wallingford. Mr. Homestead is also survived by four great grandchildren, Casey Rosenberry, Michael Rosenberry, Nathan Homestead and Jacob Homestead, all living in Wallingford. The family is grateful to Griswold's Home Health Care Professionals Catherine Ofosu and Kate Russell for their loving care and extended service.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6th at 10:00 am in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 5th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 North Main Street, Wallingford 06492.
