DURHAM - Theresa L. DeFilio, 44, of Durham, departed this life on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a committed battle against cancer. She was the beloved wife of Anthony J. DeFilio, Sr. and a devout mother of her five children. Her positive energy touched everyone who knew her and her soul lives on forever. Theresa was born on November 19, 1967, in New Haven, CT, a daughter of Anthony and Anna (Silva) Castlevetro of West Haven. Theresa was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Fairfield University. Her greatest joy came from being a wife and mother. She spent countless hours as sick as she was tending to her children and husband. In addition to her husband and parents, she will be sadly missed by her daughters: Krista M., Alexa M., and Juliana M. DeFilio; her sons: Anthony J. DeFilio, Jr. and Carmen J. DeFilio; and her sister: Anne Castlevetro of West Haven, CT. Theresa and I received significant joy from all the friends we've made throughout her battle. We are so grateful for all the respect and attention received since May of 2009. A special thanks to the entire staff of the Smilow Cancer Hospital with whose help parked our car, checked us in, consoled us, treated and ultimately comforted us. In addition, we were humbled by the countless gifts offered by our group of friends. Without this support our journey would have been unbearable. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Rd., Wallingford. Friends are asked to go directly to the church.
