Obituary of Alfred Zercie
WALLINGFORD - Alfred Joseph Zercie of Wallingford, husband of Patricia (DeRosa) Zercie passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Masonic Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 20, 1945 in Putnam, CT, son of Fabien and Rose (Gagnon) Zercie he grew up in Norwich and was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy. He served in the U. S. Navy.
He was a retired Supervisor of Mail for the U. S. Postal Service in Hartford and he also worked for the State of Connecticut Transporation Department.
In retirement he worked as a limo driver for both Hunter Limo and Hy's Livery.
He was also a former ASA umpire for the Wallingford Girls Softball League as well as mens leagues throughout Northern Connecticut.
A former member of the Wallingford Jaycee's, he was an avid New York Yankees and New York Jets fan.
Besides his wife he leaves a son, Jeffrey of Middletown, a daughter Denise (Mark) Mnich and a cherished grandson Evan Mnich of Meriden. He also leaves a brother Vincent of Norwich and stepsisters, Harriet Perrault of Danielson and Margaret Pietras of Colorado. He was predeceased by a stepbrother Fabien Jr. of North Branford and Mary Levesque of Danielson. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank Dr. Fumo, Wendy Holmes and the entire staff of Medical Oncology & Hematology and Dr. Kratzer and staff of Radiation Oncology at MidState Medical Center for all their care and support. Also, Masonic Hospice for their support and care in his final days.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, July 17th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street in Wallingford. Burial with military honors at the CT State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown will be private.
