Obituary of Sydney Leonard Parker
WALLINGFORD - Rev. Sydney Leonard Parker, 93, long-time minister within the United Methodist Church and former pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, departed this life on August 10, 2016 at Benchmark Senior Living in Hamden, CT. He was the loving husband of the late Liselotte (Lottie) Furth Parker.
Rev. Parker was born on June 16, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Joseph and Zedonia (Zeda) Lasky. He was a graduate of the City College of New York, as well as the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He was also a long-time member of the Wallingford Senior Center, where he led a bible study.
Rev. Parker will be sorely missed by his two surviving daughters: Madeline R. Parker of Wallingford, and Bernice E. Parker of MA, one brother and his wife, Gerard D. Parker and Selma Parker of NY, one granddaughter, Sarah P. Yesko of CA, and two nieces, Jodi Seidner of CT, and Nadine Jacobson of NY. Other than his beloved wife and parents, Sydney was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Susan E. Parker, of NY.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at the Cheshire United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 20th, 2016, at 11:30 AM, 205 Academy Road, Cheshire, CT 06410. Entombment will be private at the Ferncliff Mausoleum in Hartsdale, NY. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with his final arrangements.
