Sally C. Newton, formerly of 314 South Main Street, Wallingford, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Miller Memorial Community in Meriden. She was born in Meriden, June 17, 1924, a daughter of the late J. Willard and Berneece Hartman Newton. A 1941 graduate of Lyman Hall High School, Sally attended Wheaton College. She was a professional banker with a long career at Connecticut Bank and Trust and. prior to her retirement, she served as a Vice President with the New Haven Savings Bank. Sally was also very active in the community. She was President of the Wallingford Family YMCA (1985-1986), active with Habitat for Humanity, and provided her financial skills to the work of many other agencies and organizations. A lifelong resident of Wallingford, Sally was a very active member of First Congregational Church where she served as a member and chairperson of the Board of Trustees, a Co-Chair of the Tomorrow�s Church Fund Campaign, a member if the Financial Advisory Committee and a Pastoral Search Committee. Sally was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Lucille and Patricia K. Newton. A graveside service was held on April 22 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, in Patchogue, LI, NY. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 29 at 7:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, 23 South Main Street, Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Congregational Church.
